Details of Required Documents

Proof of Identity

This document is essential in order to prove the Identity of the applicants. There are a lot of identification documents that the students can submit along with the application form for the national scholarship portal. The identification documents should be submitted in the prescribed format as mentioned in the official notification for the scholarship that you are applying for. Make sure to submit the application form for the scholarship before the last date and then you will get the financial assistance accordingly. You can submit the documents in a PDF format on the official website or in JPG format.

Proof Of Residence

This document is needed in order to prove the address of the students. The students must submit the proof of residence because it will help them to prove the address accordingly. In order to prove your address, you can submit your electricity bill or you can also submit your house bill. You need to take a printout of your electricity bill in order to submit it to the official portal and then only it will be counted as your proof of residence. Make sure to fill out the application form for the scholarship as soon as possible with the correct documents and then only you will get the financial assistance.

Educational Certificate

This document is needed in order to prove the education level of the students. Students must download the certificate as presented by their school authorities and then they can submit the electronic copy of the educational certificate by visiting the official website of the national scholarship portal. It is the responsibility of the students to submit the educational certificate because it will help in verifying the application of the applicant. Students must fill out the application form for the scholarship opportunity before the last date. All the documents must be submitted on the official website as soon as possible.

Income Certificate

This document is needed to prove the income of the students. Students will have to go to the competent authorities in order to get the income certificate. Students have to make sure that they are following the correct procedure in order to get the income certificate because getting the income certificate can be a very complicated task. They will have to submit the application form for the income certificate and then the officers will visit their houses in order to verify the information that the students have submitted in the application form. Make sure to follow the correct procedure in order to get the original income certificate as soon as possible.

Caste Certificate

This certificate is needed in order to prove the caste of the applicants. There are a lot of scholarships available on the national scholarship portal and in order to prove that you belong to a minority community students will have to provide their caste certificate. Getting a caste certificate is also a very difficult procedure because you need to first submit your application form and then a verification will be done by the officers to provide you the certificate on time. If you fail to do the verification then you will not be provided the caste certificate and you will have to apply for the caste certificate again and again until the verification is completed.

Bank Account Details

If you want to get your scholarship amount directly into your bank account then you will have to provide your bank account details. In order to get the perfect information about the payment status you will have to get your bank account passbook and submit it to the concerned authorities before the last date. If you are not comfortable submitting your passbook then you will have to submit the first page of your cash book and then your account details will be verified by the organization accordingly. Make sure that you are submitting the correct bank details because if you have provided the wrong account number then you will not be provided financial assistance.

Aadhar Card

This is one of the most important identification proofs. An Aadhar Card can act as the sole identification document when you are applying for the NSP scholarships. Students will have to submit an electronic copy of their Aadhar card which can be downloaded by visiting the official website of the UIDAI authorities. Make sure to submit the Aadhar card as soon as possible and if you do not have it then you need to apply for the Aadhar card as soon as possible. Make sure to provide the correct Aadhar card number when you are filling out the application form for the portal.

Passport size photograph

Photographs are needed by the scholarship authorities in order to confirm the identification of the students. The students need to get passport-size photographs according to the details mentioned in the official notification of this scholarship. Make sure that the photo is clear of any accessories. Make sure that your eyes are clearly visible and your nose is clearly visible. Students have to make sure that they are following the protocol presented by the national scholarship portal in order to submit the correct photographs at the correct time. You must always submit the latest photograph in order to do the verification.

Domicile certificate

This certificate is needed in order to prove that the students belong to a particular state because there are a lot of different scholarship schemes available at the NSP portal. If you are applying for a scholarship scheme that is available only for your specific state then you will have to submit your domicile certificate. In order to apply for the domicile certificate you will have to visit the concerned authorities and then you will have to fill out the application form for the certificate. You will have to provide proof of address and then you will be provided the certificate so that you can submit an application form for the scholarship.

Bonafide certificate

This certificate is provided by the school authorities of the students in order to prove that the students are currently studying in that particular school. Students can submit the application form for the bonafide certificate if they have applied for this scholarship opportunity available at the NSP portal. Authorities will provide the bona fide certificate once they have verified the application of the applicants on the basis of the scholarship that they are applying for. It is important to get your bona fide certificate as soon as possible because then only you will get the financial assistance under the scholarship program.

Types of NSP Scholarships

The National Scholarship Portal caters to a wide range of scholarship opportunities, ensuring that students at different education levels can access financial assistance to support their studies.

  • Pre- and Post-Matric Scholarships: Scholarships for students in classes 1 through 10 as well as 11 and 12 are offered. Students are given financial aid according on their family income and academic standing.
  • Undergraduate (UG) Scholarships: Scholarships are available from NSP for anyone seeking a bachelor's degree. The purpose of these scholarships is to aid worthy students in their pursuit of higher education.
  • Postgraduate (PG) Scholarships: NSP provides scholarships for students pursuing their master's degree or other postgraduate courses. These scholarships help students pursue advanced studies and research.

Eligibility Criteria for NSP Scholarship

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • Eligibility: The scholarship will be awarded to students who have secured more than 50% marks in the previous final examination and their parents/guardian’s annual income from all sources should be between Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh Per Annum. (Maximum limits of family income vary for different scholarships)
  • Pre-Matric: The scholarship will be awarded for studies in India in a government school from class I to class X.
  • Post-Matric: The scholarship is to be awarded for studies in India in a government or private higher secondary school/college/ university. It will also cover technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) of classes XI and XII level including Polytechnics and other courses.
  • The following categories of applicants are eligible for NSP scholarship schemes offered on the NSP Portal:
    • Scheduled Caste (SC)
    • Scheduled Tribe (ST)
    • Other Backward Class (OBC)
    • Economically Weaker Section (EWS)
    • Minority Communities
    • Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
    • Female Students
    • Meritorious Students

NSP Scholarship – State Schemes

The NSP portal also lists the scholarships offered by different state governments under the ‘State Schemes’ section. These scholarships contain both centrally-sponsored and state-sponsored scholarships. While the centrally-sponsored scholarships are offered by the central government and implemented by different states/UTs, the state-sponsored schemes are both offered and implemented by the state government. The key states/UTs which host the scholarships on NSP include Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Puducherry, Tripura and Uttarakhand.

National Scholarship Portal Registration Guidelines for the Academic Year

Education is the right of every child, however, that comes with a price. Requirement of financial resources is the biggest stumbling block. It may be believed that the process of scholarship starts when students apply to institutions, but, in reality, it begins when a student decides to be their best version and to work on oneself. Scholarship programmes are diverse in nature. It is awarded to students from various backgrounds.

Let us take a look at some of the common scholarship programmes offered and availed by Indian students:

  • Government-based scholarship programmes such as:
    • The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme

NSP Registration Guidelines

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released the latest guidelines for registration on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the academic year 2023-24. The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a centralized portal that allows students to apply for a variety of scholarship programmes offered by the central and state governments. It is a one-stop online platform for students to access information on different scholarship schemes on offer, application process for scholarship programmes, and the process of tracking the status of application on NSP portal.

To register on the NSP platform, students must create an account using their Aadhaar and mobile number. Once registered, applicants can log in on the portal and view the list of all available scholarship programmes. To apply for a scholarship, students must fill out an online application form and submit the documents required.

Latest Changes in NSP Registration Guidelines

Key changes in the NSP registration guidelines are as follows:

  • Students must now enter their Aadhaar and mobile number to register on the NSP.
  • They must provide their bank account details.
  • Students must upload the scanned copies of required documents, such as their Aadhaar card, income certificate, and caste certificate.
  • Applicants must submit their online application form before or on the last date of application specified for each scholarship scheme.
Important NSP Registration Guidelines

Important guidelines for students applying for scholarship programmes on the NSP platform are as under:

  • Applicants must fulfill the eligibility criteria for the scholarship scheme they are applying for.
  • They need to fill in the details required in the online application form carefully and accurately.
  • Uploading of scanned copies of the required documents in the prescribed format is mandatory.
  • Application forms filled in with details must be reviewed carefully before submission.
  • Applicants should log in on the NSP platform regularly to keep a track of the scholarship application status.
  • Registered mobile numbers must be correct and verified for future communication vis-a-vis receiving one-time passwords (OTP) and SMS on this number.
  • Registered email addresses must also be correctly verified before the process of scholarship application for future communication.
  • For the pre-matric scholarship scheme, parents can provide their mobile numbers. They can only use their mobile number for up to two children.
NSP Registration Guidelines – Registration Process

The NSP registration process is straightforward. New scholarship applicants (fresh students) must register on the portal by providing accurate and verifiable information on the Student Registration Form. Parents or guardians need to fill out the registration form for students who are under 18 years of age on the date of registration.

The step-by-step processes of registration for scholarship programmes on the NSP platform are as under:

  • Interested applicants must visit the NSP platform on the following link https://scholarships.gov.in/
  • They must click on the ‘New Registration’ tab.
  • Enter the Aadhaar and mobile number.
  • Click on the ‘Generate OTP’ tab.
  • Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received on the mobile number.
  • Click on the ‘Register’ button.
  • Create a username and password.
NSP Registration Guidelines – How to Apply for Scholarships on the NSP platform?

Once the applicants are registered on the NSP portal, they can apply for available scholarship programme by adhering to the following steps:

  • Applicants should log in to the official website of NSP.
  • They should go through the list of available scholarships and read the guidelines carefully.
  • Applicants need to click on the ‘Apply for Scholarship’ tab and select the relevant scholarship scheme.
  • They need to fill in the required details and upload the documents requested.
  • They should review the application form and click on ‘Submit’ to complete the process of application.

Instructions for Aadhaar Card

With regard to the registration process with the Aadhaar number, students/guardians must follow the following instructions:

For Major Applicants:
  • Applicants who are 18 years or older on the date of registration must have an Aadhaar number.
  • Applicants who do not have an Aadhaar number must enroll themselves first. They can register using their Enrolment Identification (EID) number.
  • Their registration will be provisional until they submit their Aadhaar number and complete Aadhaar-based eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer/Client), which is required before the release of scholarship funds.
  • Students under the age of 18 years must register using their Aadhaar number with the consent of their parents or legal guardians voluntarily.
  • If a student does not have an Aadhaar number, they can register using an EID number.
  • However, in all cases where a minor student does not have an Aadhaar or EID number, the Aadhaar number of at least one parent or legal guardian will be required. In such cases, the parent or legal guardian will be treated as the beneficiary of the scholarship programme.
  • Furthermore, students who register without an Aadhaar number must complete their Aadhaar-based eKYC once they turn 18 years old to continue their registration under the scholarship programme.
  • In the case of EID number, scholarship funds will not be disbursed until the applicants submit their Aadhaar cards within the given timeframe.
  • The scholarship amount will be paid into the student’s Aadhaar-linked bank account. Additionally, the student’s registered Aadhaar number may be used to quickly credit the scholarship amount to their linked bank account.
  • For students under the major category, the student’s name, gender, and date of birth must be identical with the information present on their Aadhaar card.
  • For students under the minor category, the parent’s name and gender must also be identical with the information present on their Aadhaar card.
  • After submitting the application form, the student must complete their eKYC procedure.
  • Each student is allowed to register only once with their Aadhaar number. If multiple applications are found for the same applicants, their applications will stand rejected.
NSP Registration Guidelines – Instructions on Providing Bank Account Details

Students must adhere to the following instructions while providing their bank account details:

  • Applicants must enter the correct IFSC code of their bank branch carefully.
  • They should ensure that the account details are correct and operational until the scholarship amount is received.
  • It is recommended to maintain the same bank account throughout the scholarship disbursement process.
  • It is suggested for the applicants to have a bank account in a nationalized bank for a smooth and hassle-free scholarship disbursement, however, this is not mandatory.
  • Bank account holders must verify their ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) status with the bank and complete the KYC process.
  • Applicants are advised to link their bank account with Aadhaar number for faster disbursement.
  • The bank account must be operational/active until the scholarship fund is released.
  • The bank account should preferably be in a Scheduled Bank (as per the Reserve Bank of India) with core banking facilities.
  • In the case of Post Matric/Top Class/Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship Schemes, the bank account must be in the name of the applicant/student only.
  • In the case of the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the bank account should be in the name of either the applicant/student or the applicant can have a joint account with his/her mother/father/guardian as indicated in the application.
